No More Room in Hell 2 FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about No More Room in Hell 2, updated for the 1.0 "Armageddon" release.
What is No More Room in Hell 2?
No More Room in Hell 2 is an 8-player cooperative zombie survival-horror FPS developed by Torn Banner Studios. You deploy as an emergency Responder into zombie-infested locations, complete objectives, avoid infection, and extract alive. It is the sequel to the popular Half-Life 2 mod No More Room in Hell.
When did 1.0 launch?
The game left Early Access with the 1.0 "Armageddon" update on August 11, 2026. The update added full cross-play, Survival Mode, the Raven Rock map, and a rebuilt progression system.
Which platforms is it on?
No More Room in Hell 2 is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is not available on PS4 or Xbox One. A Steam Deck compatibility status is unconfirmed.
Does it support crossplay?
Yes. The 1.0 launch shipped with full cross-play across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can squad up with friends regardless of platform.
Can you play solo?
Yes. You can queue Objective or Survival runs alone, and 1.0 added a dedicated Solo Mode with zero permadeath risk and no traditional progression (Weekly Assignments still advance). Solo Mode is designed for learning maps and testing builds.
How much does it cost?
The game costs $29.99 USD at launch. A 35% launch sale brought the price to $19.49 on Steam through August 25, 2026. Check the Steam store for current pricing in your region.
Is there permadeath?
Yes. If your Responder dies during a run, that character, their skills, and carried loot are lost permanently. Extracting successfully keeps your Responder and progression. Solo Mode is the exception — it has no permadeath risk.
How does infection work?
Infection is a four-stage mechanic. You can be infected by failing a grab minigame (especially below 15% stamina), taking damage at or below 50% health, or stepping in Shambler corpse gas. It progresses from visual aura to audio distortion to hallucinations to a lethal final stage. Phalanx Pills delay it, Gene Therapy cures it entirely for the session, and extracting while infected also cures it. See the infection cure guide for full details.
How many maps are there?
There are 9 maps after 1.0: six Objective maps (Power Plant, Pottsville, Lewiston, Broadway, Beaulieu Hospital, Raven Rock) and three Survival maps (Flooded, Lighthouse, Night of the Living Dead). See the full maps list for details on each.
What are the game modes?
There are two main modes. Objective mode sends your squad across large maps to complete mission goals before extracting. Survival mode, added in 1.0, tasks you with defending against three waves of zombies for a helicopter extraction; failing two waves opens an early extraction.
How many players can play together?
Up to 8 players in online co-op. The game uses proximity voice chat, so you can only hear teammates who are physically near you.
What are the difficulty levels?
Difficulty is determined automatically by your squad's average Responder level, not selected manually. Classic is normal difficulty with standard rewards. Hard increases zombie damage and reduces loot. Nightmare unlocks at average level 45, strips the UI, adds fog and tougher enemies, and grants 120% XP and 200% currency.
Is there a single-player campaign?
No. No More Room in Hell 2 is designed as a co-op multiplayer experience. Solo Mode lets you play alone but uses the same maps and mechanics, with permadeath disabled for a more relaxed experience.
Can I host a private server?
Private lobbies with friends are supported. Dedicated server hosting details for the 1.0 release are still being documented by the community.
